Used drone check: read the flight log before you buy

A used drone looks identical whether it has flown ten times or four hundred. The seller's word and a clean shell tell you very little. The flight log does: it is the aircraft's own record of where it went, how hard it was pushed and whether anything went wrong. Ask the seller to export the log from the DJI app (or hand over the .bin / .ulg file from the flight controller) and run it through the analyzer before you pay.

What a log can tell you

What a log cannot tell you

Battery cycle count, cell balance and internal resistance are not in these logs. This tool does not certify airworthiness, and it cannot see crash damage. Use the report to ask better questions, and still inspect the airframe, props and batteries in person.

How to check a drone in five minutes

Ask for two or three recent logs, not just one. Upload each file, compare the dates and distances, and look for the same warning appearing twice. Two flights with GPS dropouts are a pattern; one is an accident. Then check that the serial number on the box matches the account the logs came from, and that the aircraft is not still bound to the seller's DJI account.
